At the heart of Comhaltas are the people who keep our traditions alive, and this month we want to share an inspiring story of resilience from within our Northern Region.

Karen Lacy-Roberts has long been a pillar of our community, serving as the Vice-Chair of Leeds CCÉ, the Northern Region Secretary, and a Northern Regional Representative on the Music Sub-committee. Due to her current chemotherapy treatment, Karen has unfortunately had to stand down from these official roles to focus on her health.

While this is a challenging time, Karen is keen to share a powerful message: her love for Irish music and the support of her local Comhaltas community are helping her through these difficult days.

In a wonderful display of spirit, Karen has started a musical journey on her Instagram page, which she has titled "Chemo Tunes". By uploading a tune a day throughout her treatment, she has sparked a massive wave of support, with encouraging messages pouring in from members across the province. Karen shares that, alongside the love of her family and friends, the music and her connection to Comhaltas are keeping her focused and positive.

The entire province sends its very best wishes and strength to Karen. Her dedication to the music, even now, is a testament to the strength of our community and the unbreakable bond of our shared Irish culture.
