Community and Loneliness
As part of our outreach, we put on monthly lunch club sessions in Glasgow. The sessions are open to everybody and all abilities are welcome to dance and talk with local people.
This project is designed to target pockets of loneliness and social isolation. Those living in the most deprived areas are more likely to experience feelings of loneliness (Community life survey 2021-22). These sessions provides a place for people to come and chat with their neighbours and feel that sense of community. With better mental wellbeing, people have better resilience to difficult situations, it speeds up their recovery from illness and lengthens life (NHS).
The project briefly paused during the pandemic and adapted to an online platform. Now, the club is back up and running in full swing with people coming in person to dance again. Watch the video below to see what happens at these events.
If you're interested in joining one of our sessions please contact a branch or contact us for more information of what is happening in your local area.
The sessions are completely free because of everybody who has donated, supported and fundraised for us. Without you we can’t keep doing the work we need to do.
