Ceol le Chéile Triumphs at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026

The atmosphere in Belfast was electric for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026, and Comhaltas in Britain’s youth orchestra, Ceol le Chéile, was right at the center of the celebration.

Led by Youth Officer Calum McGregor, Ceol le Chéile was established in 2025 to give 18 to 26-year-old musicians across Britain a platform to develop their professional artistry, expand their musical knowledge, and—most importantly—build lifelong cross-regional friendships.

Double Highlights in Belfast

Now in its second year, the ensemble demonstrated just how far it has come with two sensational appearances during the Fleadh week:

• Ulster Hall International Showcase: On Thursday 6th August, the orchestra took to the stage for Ceol na Cruinne. Performing alongside elite traditional ensembles from North America, Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, Japan, Italy, and Dubai, our young musicians delivered a world-class performance representing the strength of Irish music in Britain.

• City Hall Gig Rig: The momentum carried into Friday afternoon with an energetic open-air performance on the Fleadh Gig Rig in front of Belfast City Hall, drawing huge applause from international visitors and local fans alike.

Fostering Community & Leadership Beyond the Stage

The core mission of Ceol le Chéile—fostering connection across Britain's branches—has flourished far beyond performance stages.

Earlier this year at the All-Britain Fleadh in Brentwood, Ceol le Chéile members played active roles across the entire weekend. From working at the heart of committee fundraising efforts to initiating and leading vibrant, late-night music sessions at the Holiday Inn, these young performers are proving to be the future leaders and heartbeat of our Comhaltas community.

Looking Ahead:

Reflecting on the success of the trip, project lead Calum McGregor expressed his gratitude to the leadership:

"The success of Ceol le Chéile's trip to Belfast is a testament to the dedication of these remarkable young players. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Provincial Council—their ongoing funding and backing have been fundamental in supporting this project into its second year and allowing it to thrive."

With planning and funding applications now being put in place for the next 12-month cycle, preparations for the upcoming cohort are officially underway.
