Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their time, passion, and generosity help keep Irish music thriving in our communities and ensure opportunities for learning, connection, and creativity continue for all ages. At our Annual Convention in Coatbridge next month, we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible individuals who give so much behind the scenes.

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Comhaltas in Britain Volunteer Awards, designed to honour those volunteers who have made a meaningful impact over the past year. These awards shine a light on the dedication, creativity, and energy of the people who help make Comhaltas a vibrant and welcoming community.

How to Nominate

Nominations are now open, and we encourage branches, regions, and individuals to submit entries. The nomination form includes space to explain why you are nominating someone and to describe their contribution in detail.

Nominations close on 7th February 2026. All submissions will be carefully reviewed by the Provincial Council, and award recipients will be announced at our Annual Convention in Coatbridge on Saturday 21st February 2026.

1. The Ceol Nua Community Impact Award This award celebrates innovation and creative projects that strengthen music and community. It recognises volunteers who have developed initiatives that go beyond regular teaching or performance to make a broader impact locally. Examples of eligible projects might include:

  • Hosting Tradfests or community music festivals that bring local musicians together and introduce traditional music to wider audiences.

  • Organising youth exchanges that connect young people across regions, providing opportunities to learn, perform, and form lasting friendships.

  • Leading Anniversary celebrations for local Comhaltas branches, helping to showcase the history and achievements of your community while engaging members old and new.

If you know someone whose projects have inspired participation, fostered community connections, or brought new energy to traditional music, this award is for them.

2. Youth Award This award recognises a young person making an outstanding contribution to music and community. Whether through performing, teaching peers, volunteering at events, or supporting branch activities, young people play a vital role in sustaining Irish music traditions.

3. Music Tutor of the Year – The Múinteoir Ceoil Award This award honours excellence, dedication, and inspiration in music education. It celebrates tutors who have nurtured talent, encouraged creativity, and inspired their students to develop a love of Irish music and culture.

4. The Unsung Hero Award This award celebrates exceptional voluntary service and fundraising support for music. Often working quietly behind the scenes, these volunteers ensure that events, classes, and projects run smoothly and successfully. Their tireless dedication is invaluable to our organisation and our communities.

We hope these awards will inspire you to recognise the incredible people who make Comhaltas in Britain such a thriving and vibrant community. If you know someone who deserves to be celebrated, submit your nomination today.
