On Saturday 18th October, harp players across Ireland, Britain, and beyond will come together to celebrate Lá na Cruite | Harp Day, a special occasion dedicated to Ireland’s 1,000-year-old harping tradition. This rich musical heritage is proudly recognised on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting the harp’s enduring significance in Irish culture.

How to Get Involved

Organised by HarpIreland.ie, Lá na Cruite is a wonderful opportunity for harp enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to showcase their love for the instrument. There are many ways to participate:

  • Performances: Share your harp music through videos, live pop-up performances, or concerts.

  • Workshops: Join or host a harp workshop, perfect for beginners or those looking to develop their skills.

  • ‘Try Your Hand’ Sessions: Encourage newcomers to pick up the harp for the first time in fun, interactive sessions.

Branch Participation with Comhaltas in Britain

Branches of Comhaltas in Britain are invited to get involved by hosting local events, workshops, or performances. This is a fantastic way to engage your members, promote Irish culture, and inspire new harpists in your community.

Why It Matters

Lá na Cruite is more than just a day of music - it’s a chance to connect with Ireland’s cultural heritage, inspire new musicians, and keep the centuries-old tradition of Irish harping alive for generations to come.
